Renew House- Group Project

The Whirlpool/Purdue ReNew House project is making a bold statement in West Lafayette, IN. We wanted the inside to reflect this statement and create an environment that fosters the type of bold research that will be going on inside the house. To accomplish this we chose to give the Craftsman style of the home a more modern look while keeping some of the character of the original style. Fresh, contrasting paint colors, including the red from the outside of the house, update the space. Unique elements such as a flexible-use dining room/ office space with a chalkboard wall provide multi-purpose areas to accommodate the needs of the clients. Modern craftsman-style furnishings and light fixtures keep the original elements of the house intact. We chose to use light fixtures that use either LED or fluorescent lamps, creating a lighting solution that helps accomplish the energy goals of the Renew house. Natural and environmentally safe finishes and materials help further the goal of sustainability in the house. Finally, while this house will be used for important research and projects, we also wanted it to still feel warm and inviting, like a home. By using lots of wood, warm lighting, and comfortable furniture and fabrics this unique bold house still has all the comforts of a typical home.
